Dolly-Parton

Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19, 1946, in Locust Ridge Tenn. to a family of 12 poor kids who would grow together eventually, learned very young how to overcome of her difficulties by using her rich and vibrant imagination. Her songs were written before she was able to write or read. After 8 years of age, she got her first guitar. In the age of 11, she began to sing on Knoxville Tenn's radio station. In the same the year that Gold Band Records was a small independent record label. In high school she established herself local, but longed for a larger stage. When she graduated from high school in 1964, she moved immediately to Nashville. Dumb Blonde, Something Fishy and Dumb Blonde both charted on Monument Records in 1967. At about this time Porter Wagoner was looking for an actress to sing for his syndicated television show. Parton was hired in 1967, signed with RCA Records by 1968, and was a part of the Grand Ole Opry. The show was cancelled by Wagoner, but in 1974, because her solo albums such as Joshua Coat Of Many Colors and Jolene outsold their collaborations. Parton following the breakup of their collaboration with Wagoner was the one to write"I Will Never Love You and made it to Number. The first time it reached number 1 was in 1974.
